about phu quoc

Phu Quoc is the largest island in Vietnam and lies in the Gulf of Thailand just 15 kilometers south of Cambodia. Approximately half of the island is forested and the beaches are open and unspoiled. The fresh sea breezes and stunning sandy beaches touching crystal clear blue waters make this a true paradise. The island is part of an archipelago that consists of 22 islands of all sizes.

The island covers an area of 585 square kilometers and is 60 kilometers long. Over 60,000 people live on the island.

Natural Treasures
Phu Quoc is known as the Emerald Island because of its many natural treasures and sites of interest. The numerous low mountains and abundant green on the island are guaranteed to refresh your spirit. Visitors can spend time on the beach or hike while observing the wild animals. Phu Quoc National Forest will be opened to tourists in the near future.

World Famous
The island is perhaps best known for its high-quality fish sauce. The fish sauce produced here also has a high level of protein. The island produces six million liters of fish sauce every year.

The owners of Cassia Cottage produce a fine grade of heavy black pepper and other spices. We have been pepper exporters for years and have a shop where we make white pepper.

The Phu Quoc fish sauce cannot be carried off the island by plane--but our pepper can, so you can take some away with you. It's a good way to continue the special tastes and memories of Phu Quoc.

Sites to See
Phu Quoc Island has charming harbors that can handle local shipping such as An Thoi and Hon Thom.

There are also several historical sites on the island such as National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc's military base, and remains from the time Emperor Gia Long spent on the island and also of the infamous Phu Quoc prison.
